Source: DIU
Details: The wounded soldier was brought to a floating platform in a "critical condition with massive blood loss, a traumatic amputation and severe hypothermia".
DIU said that a tourniquet has been applied late, which led to hypothermia.
Quote: "We immediately started warming him up vigorously because the weather conditions were already quite unfavourable. The ambient temperature was about 10 degrees Celsius.
And gradually, as his vital signs began returning to normal, we started performing surgery."
More details: The operation lasted about 45 minutes.
The wounded man was transported to shore by boats.
