Details: There were no US representatives at the first negotiation panel, which has already ended, but they are due to join later.
President Trump's adviser and special envoy Steve Witkoff is due to join online for a separate discussion on the economic agreement, listed as the document on Ukraine's economic prosperity.
Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who is also part of the negotiating team within the peace process, is expected to join the talks later.
The other participants – advisers to European and Canadian leaders – are attending in person in Kyiv. No official reason has been given as to why the Americans are not taking part in person.
Background:
- Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Serhii Kyslytsia earlier outlined what the advisers discussed in Kyiv during the first part of the meeting.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that some of the documents aimed at settling the war will be ready to sign in January.
- A document setting out the sequence for implementing the points of the peace agreement has recently been added to the list of documents being agreed.
