Details: The statement notes that it is currently possible to leave the country through the following checkpoints:

  • Imam Khomeini International Airport (Tehran);
  • Border crossing point on the border with Armenia – Norduz/Agarak;
  • Border crossing point on the border with Türkiye – Bazorgan/Serou.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked Ukrainian citizens to follow the instructions of local authorities, avoid conflicts with police officers and remain calm.

"In case of changes in the situation or the opening of additional routes for leaving the country, the information will be updated promptly," the statement said.

Background: Mass protests have been ongoing in Iran since 28 December. Initially, due to the collapse of the national currency and huge inflation, traders at the Grand Bazaar in Tehran staged a strike. Then the protests spread across almost the entire country, and 10 days later, two cities in western Iran came under the control of protesters. State news agencies do not acknowledge the capture of these cities, claiming that the police dispersed the demonstrators. Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei acknowledged that there are economic problems, but explained them as "the work of the enemy". He also stated that "it is useless to talk to the rioters" and that they "need to be put in their place".
