After Russia's Oreshnik strike, Zelenskyy expects "clear response" from US
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that after Russia's large-scale attack on the night of 8-9 January, during which Russia used a medium-range ballistic missile known as Oreshnik, a clear response from the world is needed, particularly from the United States.

Quote: "A clear reaction from the world is needed. Above all from the United States, whose signals Russia truly pays attention to. Russia must receive signals that it is its obligation to focus on diplomacy, and must feel consequences every time it again focuses on killings and the destruction of infrastructure."
Details: The president added that the latest strike serves as a stark reminder to all of Ukraine's partners that supporting air defence remains a constant priority.
"Not a single day can be lost in deliveries, in production, or in agreements. Today, we will inform our partners at all levels about what has happened and what response measures we need," Zelenskyy wrote.
Background:
- Following Russia's large-scale attack on the night of 8-9 January, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on partners to take immediate steps to increase pressure on Moscow.
- Sybiha also announced the convening of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, a meeting of the NATO–Ukraine Council, as well as relevant measures within the European Union, the Council of Europe and the OSCE.
- Russia's Defence Ministry claimed that the use of the Oreshnik missile in the strike on Ukraine was a response to a Russian false claim alleging a drone attack on the residence of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.
