Russia attacks Ukraine with 25 missiles and 293 UAVs: air defence downs 7 missiles and 240 drones

Russian forces launched 25 missiles and 293 attack UAVs against Ukraine from the evening of 12 January. Ukraine's air defence has downed 247 targets, but strikes have been recorded at 24 locations and the attack is ongoing.

Details: As of this morning, the attack continues, with several Russian UAVs present in the country's airspace.

The Air Force said Russia launched 18 Iskander-M ballistic missiles or S-300 guided anti-aircraft missiles from Russia's Kursk, Bryansk and Voronezh oblasts and from temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as seven Iskander-K missiles from Russia's Kursk and Belgorod oblasts.

It also reported that 293 UAVs of various types were launched from the directions of Russia's Kursk, Oryol, Shatalovo, Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from Kacha in Crimea. About 200 of the UAVs were Shahed attack drones.

"The enemy launched ballistic strikes from four locations and targeted Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv oblasts. Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare assets, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups were involved in repelling the attack," the Air Force concluded.

Background:

  • On the night of 12-13 January, four civilians were killed and six others were injured in a Russian combined attack on the suburbs of the city of Kharkiv.
  • On the morning of 13 January, Nova Poshta (Nova Post), the largest private courier company in Ukraine, reported that four of its employees had been killed in a Russian missile strike: two staff members of the sorting centre and two drivers of a partner delivery company.
