Air defence, security guarantees and Donbas – Zelenskyy reveals what they discussed with Trump recently

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he discussed air defence, security guarantees and funding for Ukraine's recovery – including the Donbas region – with US President Donald Trump in Davos.

Details: Zelenskyy described his meeting with Trump and his team as positive.

He said he had raised the issue of air defence and believes that "the United States will return with a positive result".

"Second, our security guarantees are ready. The agreement is ready to be signed. Of course, there will still be many technical details, and additional documents will follow on the basis of this one, but the main agreement on security guarantees is in place. Now I am waiting for President Trump to propose a date and a venue. We are ready to sign this document, which is extremely important for us – I am confident it is historic," Zelenskyy said.

He added that the document would require ratification by the US Congress and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian parliament).

Zelenskyy also said they had discussed a package of documents known as the "prosperity plan" but noted that they were "not yet ready".

"It is very important to understand the sources of funding. They must be clear and transparent, because this will be the foundation for Ukraine's reconstruction in the coming years," the president explained.

The issue of the Donbas was also discussed, which Zelenskyy called key.

"It will continue to be discussed, including the modalities, as the three sides see them in Abu Dhabi today and tomorrow (23–24 January)," he said.
