President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine's negotiating team have identified issues that need to be worked through in greater depth in a post-war recovery agreement with the United States.

Details: Zelenskyy said on Wednesday 28 January that he, the negotiating team and Ukrainian officials have identified aspects of the US-Ukraine post-war recovery agreement that require further elaboration.

"Work with the American side is progressing actively, and on the Ukrainian side we are working with maximum efficiency. I thank the envoys of the President of the United States for their constructive approach in the negotiations. We must achieve results as quickly as possible," Zelenskyy said.

Background:

  • On Monday 26 January, Zelenskyy also said that another meeting of the negotiating teams of Ukraine, the US and Russia was being prepared for this week, tentatively scheduled for Sunday 1 February.
  • During the trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on 23-24 January, the US, Ukraine and Russia discussed terms for ending the war.
  • Among the topics discussed in the UAE were territorial issues. Ukraine insists that discussions should be based on the current line of contact, while Russia continues to demand the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the unoccupied part of Donetsk Oblast.
