Background:

  • During the hearing, Rubio also described the future status of Donbas as one of the most difficult issues of the peace talks – one the sides have not yet come close to resolving.
  • Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on 26 January that preparations are underway for the next meeting of the negotiating teams from Ukraine, the US and Russia, which is planned for Sunday 1 February.
