Pentagon orders F-16 maintenance service, contract covers jets supplied to Ukraine

The US Department of Defense has signed a US$235 million contract for the maintenance of F-16 fighter jets that includes aircraft supplied to Ukraine.

Details: The Pentagon has signed the contract with Belgian company Sabena Engineering.

The contract provides for the maintenance of F-16 aircraft and engines as well as support for managing technical and material logistics for Ukraine.
Work will be carried out in the city of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert in Belgium. Under the contract the work is due to be completed by 28 January 2029.
Background:
- Media reported in May 2025 that Romania and the Netherlands plan to set up a joint centre to train Ukrainian technical personnel for the F-16 fighter jets.
- Around the same time, the Ministry of Defence of the Netherlands announced the delivery of the last batch of 24 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
- In May 2025, the US State Department approved a US$310.5 million package for Ukraine that includes F-16 maintenance and training services.
