NATO Secretary General Rutte arrives in Ukraine – video

Details: Zelenskyy posted a video from Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square in Kyiv), where he and Rutte honoured the memory of fallen Ukrainian defenders.

Rutte also spoke at the opening of the 15th session of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament).

Rutte arrived in Ukraine just after Russia carried out an overnight combined strike across the country. This happened soon after US President Donald Trump said on 29 January that Putin had agreed not to strike Kyiv "and various towns" for a week, without specifying when the week was supposed to start.

Some members of the Verkhovna Rada had previously mentioned the NATO secretary general's upcoming visit on social media.
