Quote: "Putin is only afraid of Trump, that's a fact. It's not up to me to say what Trump should say to Putin. The American president wants to end this war with compromises.

We have supported these proposals, but there can be no compromise when it comes to our sovereignty."

Details: Zelenskyy also added that Putin "is not afraid of Europeans". He went on to express Ukraine's gratitude to Europeans, who he said live in a "wonderful and safe world".

He noted that "pure democracy cannot defeat Putin right now, because he doesn't follow the rules of war" and warned of the risk of future tragedies in Europe if Russia continues its advance.

The president also commented on efforts to restore dialogue with Putin, which his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron is pursuing.

"Putin is only looking to humiliate Europe," Zelenskyy said, noting that pressure on the Russian leader is "not enough". In his view, dialogue must take place "on certain conditions".

Background: Reuters reported that Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to Macron, visited Moscow on 3 February for talks with Russian officials.
