Russia has rejected a US proposal to transfer full control of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) as part of a potential peace agreement.

Details: The US plan envisaged Washington taking over management of the plant, including distributing electricity between Ukraine and Russia. Russia, however, refused to accept the proposal.

Meanwhile, Moscow insists on retaining sole control over the ZNPP. The Kremlin claimed that Ukraine would receive electricity at low prices under such an arrangement.

Quote from Reuters: "Moscow insists that it control the plant, while offering Ukraine cheap power, a proposal Kyiv finds unacceptable."

Details: Reuters, citing sources, reported that control of the ZNPP remains one of the most contentious issues in the talks. Both sides are holding firm positions: Russia is unwilling to make concessions, while Ukraine rejects any form of joint management.

Background: Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in 2025 that Moscow "does not consider it possible" to transfer control of the temporarily occupied ZNPP to Ukraine or any other country.
