Poland halts airports and scrambles aircraft due to nighttime Russia attack on Ukraine

Airports in Rzeszów and Lublin have suspended operations due to a large-scale aerial Russian attack on Ukraine, while military aviation has been deployed in Polish airspace.

Details: The Operational Command said that military aviation has begun operating in Polish airspace in view of the activity of long-range aviation of the Russian Federation carrying out strikes on Ukrainian territory.

"In accordance with applicable procedures, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland engaged the necessary forces and assets at its disposal. Ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems have been put on alert. These measures are preventive in nature and aimed at ensuring security and protecting the airspace," the statement said.

The Air Navigation Services Agency reported that airports in Rzeszów and Lublin have suspended aviation operations in order to ensure the unrestricted operation of military aviation.
