Among them were around 484,000 men and around 672,000 women, including around 305,000 minors.

"Of the above number of registered persons with temporary protection, 85,266 were men aged 18 to 26," the ministry noted.

At the same time, the German Interior Ministry noted it does not have data on the number of people with Ukrainian citizenship who entered the country in January 2026 because this group can enter Germany without a visa and stay here for up to 90 days.

The Ministry also said it does not expect "significant decrease in the number of refugees arriving in EU and Germany" in near future given "ongoing hostilities and constant Russian attacks". "However, it is impossible to make reliable forecasts or specific expectations of the German government based on this," the German Interior Ministry stressed.

Background: At the end of 2025, 4.35 million Ukrainians had temporary protection in the EU, and around 24,600 people obtained it in the last month of the year.
