During the ceremony, the president addressed words of gratitude to the leaders of partner countries for their support for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy included the Hungarian prime minister in the list, saying that "Viktor" motivates everyone in Europe to become better so as not to become like him.

Quote: "And I even want to thank Viktor you all know who I mean because in his own way he pushes all of us to be better. Better, so that we are never like him, someone who seems to have forgotten the word 'shame'."

Background:

  • During his speech at the conference, Zelenskyy stated that Orbán was focused on "growing his belly" rather than the security challenges facing Europe and recalled the time Soviet tanks rolled into Budapest.
  • Orbán has responded to Zelenskyy's remarks, insisting that Ukraine can never become a member of the EU.
