Zelenskyy: Russia attacks Ukraine with 420 drones and almost 40 missiles overnight, most of them downed

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented on Russian large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine on the night of 25-26 February, stressing that the country needs air defence missiles every day as Russian forces continue attempts to destroy its energy system.

Quote: "Last night, Russia once again waged war on critical infrastructure and ordinary residential buildings. 420 drones – most of them Shaheds – and 39 missiles of various types, including 11 ballistic ones, were fired at our people."

Details: According to the president, most of the missiles were intercepted thanks to partners urgently delivering part of the air defence missiles agreed at the latest Ramstein meeting. However, there were also strikes.

Zelenskyy reported damage in eight regions, with many houses and apartment buildings affected. "As of now, dozens of people are reported injured as a result of this attack, including children," he said.

He added that Russian forces also targeted gas infrastructure in Poltava Oblast and power substations in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. Emergency services were working in Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad and Vinnytsia oblasts, as well as in Kyiv Oblast and the city of Kyiv.

The president stressed the need to continue active efforts to secure air defence missiles."The cold has not yet fully receded, and air defence missiles are needed every single day while Russia continues its attempts to destroy our energy system," Zelenskyy said.
