Details: Local media outlets reported that there might have been two drones. One drone is believed to have crashed on the territory of the airport, while another reportedly exploded in the garden of a school. Early reports indicate that there were no casualties.

Nakhchivan International Airport is located about 10 km from the border with Iran.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said later that two civilians had been injured in the drone attack.

According to the ministry, the UAVs launched from Iranian territory attacked targets in Nakhchivan on 5 March. One drone struck the airport terminal, while another landed near a school in the village of Shekerabad.

"The airport building has been damaged and two civilians have been injured as a result of the attack. Baku strongly condemns this incident. Such actions contradict the norms and principles of international law and contribute to rising tensions in the region," the ministry said.

The ministry also added that Azerbaijan is demanding that Tehran provide explanations regarding the incident as soon as possible and take the necessary steps to prevent similar cases in the future.

"Azerbaijan reserves the right to take the necessary response measures. The Iranian ambassador, Mojtaba Demirchilou, has already been summoned to the Foreign Ministry. A strong protest has been conveyed to the Iranian side and a corresponding note of protest will be handed over," the ministry added.
