The European Commission has urged the United States to maintain the G7 price cap on Russian oil and not to lift sanctions.

Details: "It is very important to strictly enforce the G7 price gap and potentially move to the full maritime services ban to limit Russia's war revenues, because the opposite would be self-defeating", said Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Implementation and Simplification.
Quote: "It would reinforce Russia's capacity to wage war, undermining Ukraine, undermining our support for Ukraine, and also undermining the goals which the US and Israel are trying to reach in Iran, as we know that Russia is also supporting Iran's war effort."
Background:
- Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he plans to lift oil sanctions against some countries in order to reduce global oil prices, which have surged due to the war against Iran and the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz.
- On 9 March, oil prices jumped to US$119.5 per barrel before partially recovering.
