Quote: "The Security Service has completed the pre-trial investigation and forwarded to court an indictment against the assassin suspected of murdering Andrii Parubii, Member of Parliament of Ukraine. The perpetrator faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
New crimes committed by the individual have been recorded during the investigation, particularly calls to topple the constitutional order and kill representatives of Ukraine's state authorities."
Details: Investigators reported that the individual is a 53-year-old resident of Lviv. Law enforcement officers detained him in September 2025 in Khmelnytskyi Oblast when he was trying to illegally leave the country.

The investigation established that the man was recruited by Russian secret services in 2024 after looking on Telegram for information about his son, who had gone missing in action in Donetsk Oblast.
After being recruited, he passed to the Russian side data on the locations of the defence forces and also tried to collect information on the routes of railway convoys carrying fuel.
Later, Russian handlers assigned him a "more complex" task – to kill a state figure. According to the investigation, the man chose Andrii Parubii as his target.
The law enforcement noted that after the murder, the suspect tried to destroy evidence and flee abroad.
During searches, law enforcement officers also found a sawn-off hunting firearm that the man had hidden in a stash at Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.
In addition, the investigation established that he had publicly justified Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and glorified Russian soldiers.
He is accused of treason, an attempt on the life of a state figure, illegal handling of weapons, public calls to overthrow the constitutional order and justification of Russia's armed aggression.
The defendant faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Background:
- On 30 August 2025, Parubii was killed in Lviv. The Prosecutor General's Office reported that an unknown man had fired several shots at the politician, killing him instantly. The attacker fled the scene. A special police operation codenamed Siren was launched in the city to locate and apprehend the murderer.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on the night of 31 August-1 September that a suspect in the murder of Parubii had been detained. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko specified that the suspect had been detained in Khmelnytskyi Oblast.
- The National Police released the first photos of the detained suspect. Ivan Vyhivskyi, Head of the National Police, emphasised that the crime was not random and that it had a Russian trail.
- At a briefing on 1 September, law enforcement officers said the investigation is not ruling out any theories in the case but considers the Russian trail the priority.
- Radio Liberty journalists said that the suspect in Parubii's murder confessed during initial questioning and disclosed his contact with Russian representatives.
- In October, the SSU said its investigators had collected "irrefutable evidence of treason" by Mykhailo Stselnikov, the suspect in the murder of the MP, and that he was served with a new notice of suspicion.
- In December, the Security Service of Ukraine presented a Makarov pistol that investigators determined was used to kill Parubii.
