Details: The American leader said he believes the war in Iran will end quickly because, according to him, there is "practically nothing left to target".
"Little this and that... Any time I want it to end, it will end," Trump said.
However, despite publicly signalling that this operation has largely achieved its objectives, US and Israeli officials say there have been no internal instructions on when hostilities might cease.
"The war is going great. We are way ahead of the timetable. We have done more damage than we thought possible, even in the original six-week period," the US president noted.
According to Trump, Iran's hostility extends not only to Israel and the United States but also to Gulf countries across the region.
"They were after the rest of the Middle East. They are paying for 47 years of death and destruction they caused. This is payback. They will not get off that easy," he added.
Background:
- The US intelligence has urged government agencies and private companies to exercise heightened vigilance amid expected Iranian retaliation attempts, including cyberattacks.
- Media reports say the United States spent US$5.6 billion worth of munitions in just the first two days of the war in Iran.
- Trump's advisers are also reportedly urging him to wind down the conflict more quickly, fearing that a prolonged war and a surge in oil prices could trigger a political backlash and affect congressional elections.
