Quote: "We are very grateful for the PURL initiative, which allows us to purchase missiles for the Patriots from the United States. We will work to bring new countries into this initiative and increase contributions."
Details: The parties also discussed the situation around Iran and its impact on Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
"Russia must not gain any benefit from this or any opportunity to prolong its war against Ukraine," Zelenskyy stressed.
Background:
- Andrius Kubilius, EU Commissioner for Defence and Space, said that about 800 US-made interceptor missiles had been used in the Middle East over three days, exceeding the number Ukraine used during the winter.
- Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, expressed concern that weapons and defence capabilities, including air defence systems needed in Ukraine, are currently being redirected to the Middle East.
- Zelenskyy said that the situation in the Middle East has not yet affected the supply of US weapons to Ukraine under the PURL initiative, particularly missiles for air defence systems.
