Ukraine's defence forces struck facilities at the Saratov oil refinery in Russia's Saratov Oblast on the night of 20-21 March, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported.

Details: Early reports indicate that the damage was caused to a secondary oil refining unit and a vertical steel storage tank with a capacity of 10,000 cubic metres. Information on the scale of the damage is being gathered.

Ukraine's military said the refinery processes oil and produces fuels and lubricants used to meet the needs of the Russian forces.

For reference: The Saratov oil refinery is one of Russia's oldest oil-processing companies. As of 2023, its processing volume stood at 4.8 million tonnes.

Background: Russia's Defence Ministry claimed that 283 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones were allegedly destroyed over Russia on the night of 20-21 March.
