Canada has expanded sanctions against Iran for providing military support to Russia in its war against Ukraine.

Details: According to the press release, Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced additional sanctions against five individuals and four companies.

Quote: "These sanctions target Iranian businesspeople and companies directly involved in the procurement networks that produce and supply sophisticated technology supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC's) weapons production and transfers."

Details: In particular, it refers to the "transfer by the Islamic Republic of Iran of arms, drones and technology to malign actors", including Russia "for use in its war of aggression against Ukraine".

The Canadian Foreign Ministry noted that Iran's actions "threaten the sovereignty of other states and violate international norms".

It was also pointed out that "Canada will impose consequences on those who contribute to Iran's destabilising activities and will not tolerate actions that undermine regional and international peace and security".
