Ukrainian private air defence begins shooting down Russian drones – video
A government-launched pilot project that involves the private sector in Ukraine's air defence system is already being implemented and delivering its first results.

Quote from Fedorov: "A company participating in the project has already prepared its own air defence unit. As of today, several enemy drones have been shot down in Kharkiv Oblast, particularly Shaheds and Zalas. Meanwhile, new air defence units are being formed at another 13 companies that have received authorised entity status from the Ministry of Defence."
Details: Fedorov said all units are currently at different stages of readiness: some are already carrying out combat tasks, others are undergoing training, while the rest are completing preparation and will soon reinforce Ukraine's air defence.
"Private air defence has been integrated into the unified command system of the Air Force and is already operating within it, protecting facilities and taking part in intercepting Shahed drones. This is a systemic solution that makes it possible to rapidly scale up air defence capabilities without placing additional strain on frontline units," Fedorov explained.
He noted that a model has been created in which the state, the military and businesses operate as a single system.
"We are opening up the air defence market and creating competition: businesses and companies can develop private air defence and protect their own infrastructure. Private units receive weapons, operate under Air Force coordination and become part of the overall architecture of sky protection. The result is more protected facilities, more intercepted targets and faster response to attacks," the minister emphasised.
He added that the goal is to build a multi-layered air defence system that ensures maximum coverage and effective interception of aerial threats. Protecting the skies, he said, remains a key priority.
Background: At the beginning of March, the government expanded capabilities and support for private air defence units established at critical Ukrainian companies.
