Trump: We shouldn't have got involved in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump has said that the US should not have got involved in Ukraine.

Details: Trump said that the US has spent billions of dollars and argued that it should not have got involved in Ukraine, as the country is thousands of miles away across the ocean. He stated that the US has helped Ukraine and criticised the previous president, saying he had given Ukraine US$350 billion without receiving anything in return and had also supplied large amounts of ammunition.

Trump added that the US is now producing ammunition across the country because it needed to replenish its own stocks after sending so much to Ukraine. He claimed that, unlike his predecessor, he is selling ammunition to Ukraine and the EU is paying for it.

Background: Trump threatened to stop weapons supplies to Ukraine under the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) programme unless European allies joined the operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
