Details: Leavitt's comment came after Trump issued a series of fresh threats against Iran over the past 24 hours, promising to begin carrying them out tonight if his ultimatum on reopening the Strait of Hormuz was not met.
Quote: "The Iranian regime has until 20:00 Eastern Time to meet the moment and make a deal with the United States."
More details: When asked whether Trump was prepared to use nuclear weapons, Leavitt replied: "Only the President knows where things stand and what he will do."
Background:
- It was reported earlier that Trump said that "the entire country can be taken out in one night" and that the US could bomb all of Iran's bridges and power plants within hours. He also said that if his demand is not met tonight, "a whole civilisation will die tonight".
- The ultimatum announced by Trump expires at 20:00 North American Eastern Time, which is 03:00 in Kyiv.
- Meanwhile, representatives of Trump's communications team have rejected suggestions that he could resort to using nuclear weapons against Iran.
