Details: Sybiha said he had a substantive meeting with Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi. One of the topics was the election result in Hungary, where "Orbán's era" came to an end.

Quote from Sybiha: We discussed the outcomes of elections in Hungary and our interest in pragmatic cooperation with the new government. We expect the first clusters of EU accession talks for our countries to be opened as soon as possible. It is also important to unblock the [EU's] €90 billion loan [for Ukraine] and the 20th sanctions package."

More details: The minister also told his counterpart about the situation on the front line, Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and the progress of peace efforts.

They also discussed bilateral cooperation in energy, infrastructure and culture.

Quote from Sybiha: "We also discussed the upcoming Council of Europe Committee of Ministers meeting in Chisinău on 14-15 May and how we can make it a milestone on the path toward comprehensive accountability for Russian crimes."

Background:

  • Ukraine expects that the meeting will include a vote on the agreement to create a special tribunal for Russia over the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
  • Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe has implied that he sees such a possibility.
