Prosecutor general confirms Kyiv shooter was Moscow-born

Ukraine's Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has confirmed that the shooting in Kyiv was carried out by a 58-year-old man born in Moscow.

Quote: "In the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, a 58-year-old Moscow-born man opened fire, killing four people, after which he barricaded himself inside a supermarket and held hostages.

According to early reports, he used an automatic weapon. At the same time, a fire broke out in the flat where the attacker was registered.

The Kyiv City Prosecutor['s Office] promptly arrived at the scene. During a raid by the KORD special unit, the gunman was killed."

Details: Kravchenko noted that a total of five people were killed as a result of the attacker's actions – four in the street and one inside the supermarket.

Background:

  • On 18 April, a man opened fire on people in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district, leaving people dead and injured. Police conducted a special operation to detain the attacker.
  • The man who carried out the fatal shooting was later killed during the arrest.
  • According to Ukrainska Pravda's sources, his name was Dmytro Vasylchenkov, born on 21 April 1968. He was born in Moscow, held Ukrainian citizenship and had previously lived in Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, before moving to Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that 5 people were killed, 10 hospitalised, and 4 hostages were rescued following the shooting.
