Quote: "This citizen was born in 1968. Most likely a pensioner. He lived nearby. He walked down the street, starting from Demiivska Street. Along the way, he shot four of our citizens. The fifth victim was shot inside the shop as a hostage. The KORD special unit in Kyiv and Kyiv police carried out an operation, and the offender was killed.
He had a weapon, a carbine, which was registered. Moreover, in December 2025 this man applied to the licensing system to have the weapon revalidated, as the permit had expired. He provided a medical certificate. The investigation will establish which medical institution issued this certificate. He submitted an application to extend his right to use the weapon."
Details: According to Klymenko, the attacker made no demands. The negotiations lasted around 40 minutes.
"We understood there was an injured person inside and offered to provide tourniquets, but he did not respond. Therefore, the decision was made to neutralise him, especially after he shot one of the hostages," the minister said.
He added that investigators will establish the attacker's motive.
