Zelenskyy speaks with Finnish president about diplomatic work with US

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held a phone call with Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

Details: During the phone call, the presidents of Ukraine and Finland discussed the situation on the front lines, challenges arising from the war in Iran and joint opportunities to strengthen security.

Zelenskyy and Stubb also separately discussed the state of diplomatic work with the US and engagement with European institutions.

Background:

  • Zelenskyy previously said that the Ukrainian side has not yet received confirmation of the dates of a visit to Kyiv by US President's special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. According to Zelenskyy, the US representatives promised him during a conversation that they would visit Kyiv in early April.
  • This week, Zelenskyy acknowledged that due to the war with Iran, the attention of US President Donald Trump's administration and his negotiators is now focused not on negotiations regarding the Russo-Ukrainian war.
  • Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the President's Office, previously suggested that the American delegation may arrive in Kyiv after Orthodox Easter, which fell on 12 April this year.
