Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has condemned the shooting that occurred in Washington during the White House Correspondents' Dinner at a hotel where US President Donald Trump was present together with First Lady Melania Trump and several senior officials.

Details: Sybiha also expressed relief that Trump and US Vice President JD Vance, as well as the other participants in the event, were not harmed in the attack. The minister stressed that such violence cannot be justified.

Background:

  • On the evening of 25 April in Washington, gunshots were heard during the White House Correspondents' Dinner at a hotel where Trump and Melania Trump were present; they were urgently evacuated.
  • Law enforcement officials said the attacker was identified as 31-year-old teacher Cole Thomas Allen from Torrance, California. He was detained. The attacker's motives remain unknown.
  • Commenting on the incident after the evacuation, Trump suggested that he himself may have been the attacker's target.
