Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has condemned the shooting that occurred during the White House Correspondents' Dinner at a hotel in Washington where US President Donald Trump was present together with First Lady Melania Trump and several senior officials.

Details: Sybiha also expressed relief that Trump, US Vice President JD Vance and other attendees were not harmed in the attack, stressing that there can be no justification for such violence.

Background:

  • On the evening of 25 April in Washington, gunshots were heard during the White House Correspondents' Dinner at a hotel where Donald and Melania Trump were in attendance; they were urgently evacuated.
  • Law enforcement officials said the attacker has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old teacher from Torrance, California. He was detained. The attacker's motives are unknown.
  • Commenting on the incident after the evacuation, Trump suggested that he himself may have been the attacker's target.
