Quote: "Within the conference framework, an agreement was signed with the EBRD for €30 million for the first stage of restoration – damage assessment, development of technical solutions, and design, enabling the launch of necessary works and early procurement of equipment."
Details: According to early estimates, the cost of restoring and strengthening the safety of the confinement structure after a Russian drone strike in February 2025 is around €500 million.
In addition, partners have pledged nearly €100 million more to enhance nuclear safety. Following the event, 24 countries supported a joint statement on mobilising resources for the Chornobyl NPP.
Shmyhal stressed the importance of international support in addressing the aftermath of Russian strikes.
Quote: "I am deeply grateful to the EBRD, IAEA, the European Union, partner governments, and all those supporting Ukraine in responding to the consequences of Russian attacks while strengthening the resilience of the energy system. Solidarity with Ukraine in energy and nuclear safety is a shared investment in Europe's security."
Background: Shmyhal said that the Russians had conducted 155 attacks on substations in Ukraine that are critical for nuclear safety since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
