Russia uses Parodiya decoy drones again during attack on Kyiv Oblast – photos

Russian forces used Parodiya decoy UAVs during a drone attack on Kyiv Oblast on 2 May after a pause of several months.
Source: Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an adviser to the Ukrainian defence minister and radio technology expert
Details: Dozens of Parodiya drones circled over Ukraine to distract air defence. Beskrestnov also posted a photo showing the trajectory followed by the UAVs.
Quote: "This is what it looks like, as shown in the image. Many residents therefore heard the sounds of UAVs approaching in the sky. The enemy is constantly testing new UAV tactics, and the task of the defence forces is to analyse, study, anticipate and, of course, counter them."

Details: Beskrestnov also noted that during the Russian attack on 2 May there were suspicions that a copy of a drone produced by a Ukrainian manufacturer had been used, although this has not been confirmed.
Parodiya drones have been recorded in Ukrainian airspace since at least autumn 2024. According to the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), these UAVs do not carry warheads and are smaller and cheaper than Geran drones. Still, thanks to a Luneburg lens, they present a radar signature similar to that of Geran drones. Russia uses components from various countries in the drone, including a flight controller module containing parts manufactured by companies from China (Ebyte, Jiashan Jinchang Electron, Yangzhou Yangjie Electronic Technology), the United States (Texas Instruments, Cypress Semiconductor, InvenSense), Switzerland (STMicroelectronics) and Taiwan (SONiX Technology).

Background:
- Russia has launched mass production of an FPV drone with a ring wing capable of flying up to 50 km.
- Earlier, Beskrestnov revealed the internal components of the Klin, a new Russian strike drone that had been shot down by Ukraine's defence forces.
