Details: The alliance aims to strengthen the security and defence of the EU and Ukraine by developing an innovative industrial ecosystem in the field of defence drones, the European Commission said.
The initiative follows European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's 2025 State of the Union address, in which she outlined measures to counter the growing threat of drone warfare.
Quote: "The EU-Ukraine Drone Alliance will support the development of advanced drone and counter-drone technologies. As an industry-led ecosystem, it will contribute to European efforts to build a comprehensive drone and counter-drone capability, building on the Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030 and the Commission's Action Plan on Drone and Counter Drone Security."
Details: Founding members will be selected from applicants with experience in the EU and Ukrainian defence drone ecosystem. They will form the initial governing board of the EU-Ukraine Drone Alliance and play a key role in shaping its activities and priorities.
The alliance is expected to begin operations in the coming months, with applications open until 25 May 2026.
Background: On 16 October, the European Commission presented the EU Defence Roadmap, in which Ukraine was identified as a key component of the EU's defence readiness.
