Details: Ushakov was asked whether Fico had passed on any messages from Zelenskyy to Putin.
"I can say that the issue of Ukraine was discussed, among many other matters, and during this discussion, the prime minister informed our president and our delegation that he had indeed met with Zelenskyy recently. Zelenskyy shared his assessment of the situation with him… But Zelenskyy did not ask him to pass on any messages," the Kremlin aide said.
"Fico simply provided quite detailed information about what he had discussed with Zelenskyy," Ushakov added.
Background:
- Robert Fico met with Putin in Moscow on 9 May. He is the only EU leader who is in the Russian capital for the Victory Day celebration.
- Fico arrived in Moscow on 8 May and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin, describing himself as something of a "black sheep" in the EU.
- Ahead of the visit, Bratislava said that Fico intended to pass on a message from the Ukrainian president to the Kremlin leader, and that he might receive "valuable information" from Putin about how he sees efforts to end the war.
- The Ukrainian President's Office said in this regard that Zelenskyy had told Fico during a meeting that Ukraine was willing to meet with Russia at leader level in a meaningful format.
