More details: Magyar said Foreign Minister Anita Orbán had summoned the Russian ambassador for a meeting at 11:30 on 14 May in connection with the drone attack on Zakarpattia Oblast.

It is worth noting that Anita Orbán's predecessor, Péter Szijjártó, had never summoned the Russian ambassador after Russian attacks on Zakarpattia Oblast, which prompted criticism from independent Hungarian media.

Background:

  • Anita Orbán earlier said she "strongly condemns" the Russian attack on Ukraine and reported that the situation will be discussed at a Hungarian government meeting. She also said the Hungarian government is aware of five drone strikes.
  • In particular, she said drones struck Ukraine, damaging a transformer and a railway station in the town of Svaliava, and an industrial facility in the city of Uzhhorod.
  • Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha pointed out that Anita Orbán responded quickly to Russian strikes on Ukraine on 13 May and thanked her for doing so.
