Zelenskyy orders options for response to large-scale Russian strike on Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed officials at a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on 14 May to identify possible formats for Ukraine's response to the large-scale and continuous Russian strike on Ukraine.

  • On 10 May, Zelenskyy said Ukraine will respond in kind to Russia's actions from now on. And he said that "if the Russians decide to return to full-scale warfare, our sanctions for this will be immediate and tangible. Distance is already becoming less and less important – we have demonstrated that through our long-range capabilities. Ukraine has always acted clearly and honestly in this regard".
  • On 13 May, Defence Intelligence of Ukraine warned that Russia has launched a new combined air attack against Ukraine that may last for an extended period.
  • As of 12:00 on 14 May, seven people are known to have been killed, including a 12-year-old child, and 44 injured in a combined Russian missile and drone attack on the city of Kyiv. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine has reported that 20 people are still missing.
