More than US$15 million of the funding will be allocated to restoring and improving public infrastructure, covering machinery and equipment for utility companies, maritime infrastructure and the modernisation of critical facilities.

More than US$15 million will be allocated to medical and rehabilitation services.

The remaining funds will support the agricultural sector and the development of public broadcasting.

Kuleba said this is already the fifth phase of the emergency recovery programme that Ukraine is implementing together with Japan and JICA.

Large-scale projects are currently being implemented with support from the Japanese government in energy, transport, water supply, medicine, education, humanitarian demining, debris waste management and municipal infrastructure.

Total funding exceeds US$700 million.

Background:

  • Japan earlier handed over machinery and equipment to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for humanitarian demining needs.
  • JICA transferred three powerful autotransformers worth more than US$20 million to Ukraine.
  • Earlier, Ukraine received a US$690 million grant from Japan and Canada under the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) mechanism through the World Bank's PEACE in Ukraine programme.
