Details: Zelenskyy said the main topic of discussion was reinvigorating the negotiation process to end the war, as well as ensuring Europe's participation in it.
Following the discussion, the leaders agreed that their national security advisers will meet in the near future.
Quote: "All partners note that Ukraine's position is significantly stronger – both on the battlefield and in our long-range operations. This is significant, and it is precisely this kind of our pressure that can compel a shift toward right and effective diplomacy."
Details: Zelenskyy briefed the leaders on Russia's plans regarding Ukraine, Belarus and other parts of Europe, and said that the countries' intelligence services will exchange relevant information.
The discussion also covered communication with the United States.
Background:
- On 22 May, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that peace negotiations on Ukraine have stalled, but expressed Washington's willingness to continue mediating if the talks become constructive.
- On 20 May, Zelenskyy reported "productive" interactions with the US, expressing hope that peace talks with Russia could resume, potentially with European participation.
- Politico said the European Union is actively considering former German chancellor Angela Merkel, former Italian prime minister Mario Draghi and Finnish President Alexander Stubb as possible EU representatives in negotiations related to the Russia-Ukraine war. Reports also indicated that Merkel had publicly declined such a role.
