Zelenskyy hopes peace talks will resume "in coming weeks" with European involvement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported that Kyiv has had "productive" interactions with the United States and said he hopes this could lead to the resumption of peace talks with Russia, including possible European involvement.

Quote: "There was productive contact between our team and the American side – both on issues of our security cooperation and on diplomacy regarding the Russians.
If, in the coming weeks, we manage to return to meaningful trilateral communication and involve the Europeans, this would be the right outcome."
Details: Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine is willing to take the appropriate steps.
Quote: "I count on our partners to be willing as well – and that the Russians will not hide."
Background:
- Trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US and Russia have effectively stalled since the US-Israeli war against Iran began in late February. Ukraine and Russia have, however, maintained bilateral contact with the US.
- EU foreign ministers will discuss the strengths of possible candidates for the role of negotiator with Russia on a peace settlement in Ukraine at a meeting in Cyprus next week.
- It was reported earlier that former German chancellor Angela Merkel has declined the role of mediator, instead urging EU leaders to negotiate directly with the Kremlin to end the war in Ukraine.
