The unit was completely shut down after the strike, and repairs may take more than a month.

Syzran is located about 800 km from Ukrainian-controlled territory.

The refinery has a nominal processing capacity of 8.5 million tonnes per year, or 170,000 barrels per day.

In 2024, the facility processed 4.3 million tonnes of crude oil, producing 1.5 million tonnes of diesel fuel, 800,000 tonnes of petrol and 700,000 tonnes of fuel oil.

Background:

  • The Moscow and Ryazan oil refineries also suspended crude oil processing following Ukrainian attacks on 17 and 15 May respectively.
  • Overall, nearly all major oil refineries in central Russia have been forced to suspend or reduce fuel production following Ukrainian drone attacks.
