Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has said that in May the ratio of liberated to lost territory was almost 100 sq km in Ukraine's favour. Overall, Ukrainian forces have recaptured more than 600 sq km of territory since the beginning of the year.

Quote: "Despite constant enemy pressure, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold the line, eliminate the occupying forces and carry out effective strikes against the enemy deep within its operational and strategic rear. These are the key results of our military's activities in May, which we reviewed during our monthly summary meeting."

Details: According to Syrskyi, the situation on the battlefield remains difficult and highly dynamic. Russian forces continue attempts to advance in Ukraine's east and south, while the number of combat engagements has increased significantly. The fiercest fighting is taking place on the Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka and Huliaipole fronts.

Syrskyi said that the defence forces had nevertheless maintained the initiative in certain areas and that, as a result of active operations in May, the balance between liberated and lost territory was almost plus 100 sq km in Ukraine's favour. Since the start of the year, more than 600 sq km of Ukrainian territory have been liberated.

He added that Ukrainian forces carried out thousands of successful strikes against Russian military targets during the month. Units of the Unmanned Systems Forces struck more than 88,000 targets and, according to command estimates, killed more than 30,500 Russian servicemen. Front and Middle-range strike capabilities also continued systematically targeting Russian headquarters and ammunition depots.

In addition, Ukraine's Deep Strike capabilities hit 111 Russian military-industrial, energy and fuel infrastructure facilities supporting the Russian armed forces during the month.

"The direct and indirect economic damage inflicted on the enemy as a result of Deep Strike operations in May amounted to approximately US$1.058 billion," the commander-in-chief said.

The commander-in-chief also recalled that, for the first time under a unified operational concept, Ukraine had successfully carried out a series of strikes against military-industrial and fuel-and-energy facilities in Moscow and the surrounding Moscow Oblast. He said this once again demonstrated the defence forces' ability to inflict significant losses on the enemy far beyond the frontline.

Meanwhile, throughout May, the Ukrainian Navy conducted around 1,500 operations to ensure the safety of civilian shipping in the combat zone, enabling 633 vessels to reach the ports of Greater Odesa (Odesa, Pivdennyi and Chornomorsk) and the Danube River.

Background: At the beginning of May, Syrskyi described the Pokrovsk front as the most difficult area of the front line, noting that around 106,000 Russian troops had been concentrated there.
