Details: Moldova's Foreign Ministry said it remains in constant contact with the Ukrainian authorities regarding the drone that exploded in the Orhei district. However, as early reports indicate, "it is highly likely that the drone is of Ukrainian origin".

"Regardless of the drone's origin, responsibility for any unmanned aerial vehicle that enters the territory of the Republic of Moldova lies with Russia, which launched the illegal war in the neighbouring country," the ministry said.

The ministry also expressed solidarity with Ukraine.

However, it is worth noting that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that the drone was Russian.

Background:

  • Moldova is preparing legislative amendments to enable the domestic production of interceptor drones aimed at protecting its airspace.
  • Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said the country is seeking technology capable of countering such drones before they cause casualties or destruction.
