Details: Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine has done everything necessary to open all six clusters in EU accession negotiations and announced progress on this matter at upcoming EU leaders' meetings.
Quote: "There are no obstacles and it is important that this progress is made, that the clusters are opened, and that the Russians also see this. See that Europe keeps its promises and does not surrender its European interests."
More details: Zelenskyy also called on the EU to continue sanctions pressure on Russia, first and foremost by adopting the 21st sanctions package. He is convinced that the new restrictions should target Russia's shadow fleet.
Background:
- It was reported that the opening of the first Fundamentals cluster in accession negotiations for Ukraine and Moldova is scheduled for 15 June.
- EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos asserted in Kyiv that Ukraine should integrate into the EU even before full membership.
- Hungary had long blocked Ukraine's progress towards EU membership, with this veto overcome only after a change of the country's prime minister.
