Ukraine and Latvia agree on joint areas of cooperation for developing unmanned systems
Ukraine's Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has held a meeting with his Latvian counterpart Raivis Melnis during which they agreed on joint areas of cooperation in the development of unmanned systems.

Details: Fedorov and Melnis discussed further steps for cooperation in the field of unmanned systems and technologies to counter aerial threats.
"Ukrainian technologies and combat experience help our partners adapt more quickly to the challenges of modern warfare, while the support of allies allows us to scale up solutions that have already proven effective on the battlefield," Fedorov said.
A separate focus of the ministers' discussion was the development of partnership within the framework of the Drone Deal and the launch of new joint projects. The sides also identified priority areas for using partners' resources to strengthen Ukraine's defence forces.
"Among the practical areas of cooperation are the supply of Latvian-made counter-drone systems, as well as unmanned systems for Ukraine's defence forces. This includes attack drones, ground-based robotic systems, and maritime unmanned vehicles," Fedorov stressed.
Background:
- On 9 June, during a visit to Estonia for the Nordic-Baltic Eight summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held his first meeting with Latvia's new Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs. During the meeting, they signed an agreement on unmanned systems, the so-called Drone Deal.
- At a briefing during the visit, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine could send experts to Baltic countries to help them establish protection against "stray" Ukrainian drones.
