Ukraine's defence minister: Crimea will become an island in near future

Ukraine's Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov predicts that the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula will become isolated in the near future due to Ukrainian drone strikes.

Quote from Fedorov: "Crimea is being isolated by drones. And in the near future, it looks as though Crimea will become an island. This could lead to very unexpected consequences for the Russians. I can't say anything more."
Details: Fedorov said that during the first four months of 2026, the Defence Ministry contracted 300% more mid-strike drones – which Ukraine regularly uses to strike the Azov Sea region – than during the whole of 2025.
Quote from Fedorov: "What we did back then is now starting to produce results. We announced a logistics lockdown. This means additional direct funding for units that use mid-strike drones. While purchasing hundreds of thousands of mid-strike drones, we are simultaneously providing funding to units that know how to rapidly use and procure them.
So, hell is beginning for the Russians, and it is very difficult to deal with. And we have this window of opportunity. Logistics routes are being cut off, Crimea is being isolated. And this is having an impact in the east. There is a direct correlation between how much we strike logistics and the number of assault operations taking place on the front line."
