Details: The ambassador said that from 17 June, the Hungarian government has ended restrictions on access to several Ukrainian online media outlets, including European Pravda.
"In Hungary, democracy is moving forward by leaps and bounds, and I am not joking. After lifting the persona non grata status from the guys from Oschadbank, we now have the government's next steps: as of today, the government has lifted the ban that was in place for Hungarian internet providers, which prevented access to a number of Ukrainian news websites, including European Pravda and Ukrainska Pravda," Shandor said.
"Work is also underway on lifting all political decisions on persona non grata status – that is, entry bans imposed for political reasons against Ukrainians under the previous government," he added.
Background:
- At the end of September 2025, Hungarian internet providers began blocking access to Ukrainian media resources, following a government decision as a response to Ukraine blocking several portals spreading Russian propaganda.
- European Pravda is aware that under Orbán, the outlet was considered to be working against Hungary's interests, and all publications related to Hungary were closely monitored.
- The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, commenting on Hungary's decision to block access to several Ukrainian media outlets, stressed that it amounted to restricting Hungarians' access to fact-based journalism.
