Details: In Brussels, Hegseth noted the success of the PURL mechanism for procuring US weapons for Ukraine.
Hegseth said there has also been progress regarding Ukraine, noting that under the PURL initiative, allies have taken a leading role in financing Ukraine's defence support and that Ukrainians are holding the line despite sustained Russian attacks.
He added that the US has been confident that the approach would work, that allies could lead the effort and that it would align with Ukraine's defence needs.
He emphasised that the arrangement is working and that it confirmed Trump's approach, which he said will lay the groundwork for peace.
