Details: The plant is located in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, 450 km east of Moscow. It is also known as the Nizhny Novgorod refinery or Nizhegorodorgsintez, and belongs to Russian state oil company Lukoil.
The attack damaged the plant's main CDU-5 processing unit. The capacity of this unit is 12,000 tonnes per day, accounting for approximately a quarter of the plant's total production capacity.
The plant may use other units to resume operations in the near future, it is noted.
NORSI is capable of processing around 15 million tonnes of oil per year and producing approximately 5 million tonnes of petrol, more than 5 million tonnes of diesel fuel, 2 million tonnes of fuel oil and around 500,000 tonnes of bitumen.
Background: The Moscow oil refinery will not resume operations until 2027 as a result of Ukrainian drone attacks.
