Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has said that the issue of handing over MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine remains unresolved.

Details: Kosiniak-Kamysz addressed the potential handover during a press conference in which he also disclosed details of the military assistance Poland has provided Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.

The Polish defence minister said that the issue had not yet been resolved. He added that Poland had received a request from the Ukrainian side stating that it remained interested in the matter.

He added that Ukraine had presented proposals to supply drones to Poland over the next two years.

Kosiniak-Kamysz said that such an exchange was realistic but that it had to be an exchange rather than simply a one-sided transfer by Poland. He added that they were approaching the matter very cautiously.

Background:

  • On 30 June, Kosiniak-Kamysz said Ukraine had withdrawn from an arrangement under which Poland would have transferred MiG-29 fighter jets in exchange for access to Ukrainian drone technologies.
  • A few days later, he claimed that Ukraine was not sharing drone technologies with Poland because of a historical dispute.
